GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Gators starting quarterback DJ Lagway left the Georgia game with a hamstring injury in the first half and did not return. He was on crutches with his left leg in a brace and had an MRI on Sunday.

UF coach Billy Napier provided an update on Lagway’s status at his Monday press conference.

“The good news is, we’ve had positive information on that front,” Napier said. “That is the positive thing, we do think the injury is less significant. We think there’s a pathway for a recovery and return. And we did find that out (Sunday) evening. Lot of good on that front. So, less significant than we anticipated.

“And he’s been doing well so far (Monday) morning. We have not completely ruled him out (for Texas) and I think a lot of that will be to be determined as we move our way throughout the week. So that’s a good thing for all involved and certainly for DJ. … It’s gonna be pretty clear cut once we get to Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. So, we’ll know.”

Lagway threw a 43-yard touchdown pass against UGA and led the Gators to a 10-3 lead before he was injured. Saturday marked his second straight following the season-ending injury to Graham Mertz at Tennessee.

Lagway led the Gators to a 48-20 win over Kentucky with 305 total yards in his first SEC start. He set the single-game school record for most passing yards (456) by a Florida true freshman quarterback in the 45-7 win over Samford.

Lagway was part of a two-quarterback system with Mertz prior to his injury, playing every third series. For the season, Lagway has thrown for 1,071 yards with six touchdowns, five interceptions and a 60.9% completion rate.

Lagway was replaced in the Georgia game by third-string quarterback Aidan Warner, a preferred walk-on transfer from Yale. He led the UF offense on two scoring drives and finished with 66 yards and a pick on 7 of 22 passing.
