Elite WR Eugene Wilson III down to two schools; the Gators are trending heavily
With his commitment date approaching, top-50 prospect Eugene Wilson III says he has narrowed his focus to two schools.
Wilson, a four-star wide receiver from Tampa (Fla.) Gaither, says Florida and Texas A&M are his finalists. He expects to release his commitment date in the near future.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Gators have a 71.7 percent chance at coming out on top. There are many reasons for that, including three predictions that all favor the orange and blue. I submitted my pick on March 1, which was just days after UF extended an offer.
Also, Wilson himself previously admitted that Florida was going to be difficult to beat out. He has made his way up to Gainesville four times this year, including for his official visit on June 17. The Aggies’ lone visit took place on June 3.
Florida is the childhood favorite program, Wilson sees a clear path to early playing time, and his former teammate Jordan Young is on the roster as well. This is the offer he had coveted since the recruiting process kicked into gear.
It’s also worth noting Wilson has a tight-knit relationship with Billy Napier’s staff, highlighted by wide receivers coach Keary Colbert.
“Everyone is cool up there and I just feel comfortable around them. Coach KC is great, but coach Spencer, coach Napier, and all of the staff have treated me great,” Wilson said.
“With almost every school, I wait for them to hit me up for us to have conversations, but I actually reach out to Florida sometimes. I enjoy communicating with them and I have a strong relationship with almost the entire coaching staff.
“I love (Keary Colbert). Each time I talk to him, it’s a good conversation. There is no tension at all. It’s easy to conversate with him. He’s a real good dude.”
Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Oregon, LSU, Oklahoma and Michigan State are some additional offers on the table for Wilson.
