GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For the first time since 2016 the Florida Gators and Tennessee Volunteers will meet as top-20 opponents. Tennessee comes into this game as big a favorite as they have ever been in the series. Florida comes in following a loss to Kentucky and a close win over USF last weekend.

The Volunteers have blasted two MAC opponents and beat Pittsburgh on the road in overtime.

This Saturday’s matchup in Knoxville will serve as a proving ground for two programs. Tennessee is in the second year of the Josh Heupel era. Tennessee went 7-6 (4-4 SEC) last season and is 3-0 to start the 2022 season. Florida is in year one of the Billy Napier era, the beginning of a new chapter and direction.

A Tennessee win on Saturday would go to show Volunteer fans hope that the program is headed in the right direction. That Heupel could do what coaches before him couldn’t — beat the Gators. For Gator Nation, it would show that Napier has what it takes to continue Florida’s dominance over a rival.
