One of the Gators’ reserve offensive linemen will be finishing his career elsewhere.

Joshua Braun, a sophomore and former blue-chip recruit from Live Oak (Fla.) Suwannee, is no longer with the program and intends to enter the transfer portal, his father told Gators Online on Tuesday. Braun himself should be releasing a statement in the near future.

Under Billy Napier, Braun appeared in two games for the Gators. He saw game action along the offensive line against Eastern Washington and appeared on special teams against Missouri.

By not taking part in another game this season, Braun will be able to preserve his redshirt.

“Josh had to make a decision about his future. He felt like he had to preserve his redshirt and enter the portal when it opens. He left the team,” Mike Braun told GO.

During the 2021 season, the 6-foot-6, 351-pound Braun started in seven of 13 games, having appeared at left and right guard. He appeared in 11 games as a backup during his true freshman season.

A former Georgia commit, Braun committed to the Gators shortly after Sam Pittman left Athens to become the head coach at the University of Arkansas.

According to the On3 Consensus, Braun ranked as the No. 27 offensive tackle and No. 262 player overall during the 2020 cycle. Auburn, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina and Michigan are some additional schools that offered Braun out of high school.

“As soon as I stepped on campus I told myself this is where God wants me to be. This is where I have decided to be. This is where I am,” Braun said of his commitment to UF when speaking on the Stadium and Gale Podcast earlier this year. “There’s no point in thinking about being somewhere else or wishing to be somewhere else.

“My dad taught me to be where my feet are. My feet were in Gainesville, so this is where I’m supposed to be and where I want to be.”
