On Monday afternoon, On3 released the latest batch of On300 rankings for the class of 2023. Plenty of offseason events played a significant factor, but the majority of these moves come after several games of the 2022 season.

And as expected, there are certain prospects On3 ranks significantly higher relative to other ranking sets across the recruiting industry. One of them is wide receiver, Eugene Wilson III, a four-star Florida commit from Tampa (Fla.) Gaither.

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Wilson checks in as the No. 21 wide receiver and No. 127 prospect regardless of position.

However, On3 ranks the senior significantly higher, labeling him as the No. 5 wide receiver and No. 36 player overall. He moved up 26 spots this afternoon. Wilson’s second-best rating comes from ESPN, which ranks him 151st nationally.

Wilson is expected to be a home-run threat for the Gators

With that said, On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, explains why the top-100 prospect continues to trend up on our network.

Florida wide receiver commit Eugene Wilson III (No. 36) made a big rankings splash back in February after an eye-popping showing on the camp circuit. Those advanced movement skills and technical abilities as a receiver have shown up on the field so far this fall.

“Wilson is a silky smooth receiver with elite quickness and high-end ball skills at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. The NFL legacy is a two-way standout as a receiver and cornerback at Tampa Gaither but has the skill set to be a dangerous pass-catcher in Gainesville.”

Gerry Hamilton, another talent evaluator with On3, shares his thoughts on Wilson’s skill set as well.

“The Florida verbal ascends 26 spots to No. 36. Wilson is one of the nation’s top prospects who could excel at the Power 5 level at receiver or cornerback. His initial quickness places defenders on heels. His agility and change of direction is among the best in the 2023 cycle.

“Wilson will not only be a weapon as a receiver for the Gators, but also in the punt return game. The near 5-foot-11, 170-pounder features a 4.49 laser 40-yard dash time that translates to the field on Friday nights.”

Prior to committing to the Gators, Wilson considered additional offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oregon and LSU.

Wilson is one of five wide receivers in the Gators’ 10th-ranked recruiting class, joining Aidan Mizell, Andy Jean, Creed Whittemore and Tyree Patterson.
