Wyatt Langford earns SEC Player of the Week honors

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators outfielder Wyatt Langford has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week. The league office announced the winners on Monday.
 
For Langford, Monday’s announcement marks his first-career weekly SEC honor. The Trenton, Florida native earned Player of the Week status alongside Charlie Condon of Georgia.
 
Across the previous week of play, Langford led all SEC hitters with 24 total bases while slashing .500/.560/1.200 over five starts. He paced Florida with 10 hits, four home runs and nine runs scored as the Gators went 3-2 highlighted by a series win over No. 22 Miami.
 
Langford totaled six extra-base hits in 20 at bats and homered twice in the game one win vs. the Hurricanes. He also had a pair of hits including another home run in the series-clinching win on Sunday.

He shared the honor with Georgia 1B/OF Charlie Condon. Condon batted .588 (10-for-17) with two doubles, three home runs, and eight RBI in helping Georgia go 3-1 on the week including a series win over No. 16 Georgia Tech. His highlights included going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in a 16-6 road win on Saturday to clinch the series. He also had a pair of hits in the series-opening win on Friday, following a four-hit game against Presbyterian on Tuesday.
 
On the season, the Unanimous First Team Preseason All-American owns a robust .438/.554/.979 batting line with six home runs, one triple, six doubles, 23 runs and 16 RBI.
 
Langford and the Gators remain home this week, hosting FAU in a two-game midweek series on Tuesday, March 7 (6 p.m.) and Wednesday, March 8 (6 p.m.). Both games will stream on SEC Network+.

Pitcher of the Week – Paul Skenes, LSU

Skenes, improved to 3-0 this season as he defeated Butler on Friday, limiting the opposition to no runs on one hit with no walks and a career-high 13 strikeouts in six innings. He allowed a two-out single in the first inning, then retired 16 straight Butler hitters to complete his outing. Skenes’ 13 strikeouts represented the most by an LSU pitcher since March 2, 2018, when Zack Hess recorded 13 strikeouts against Toledo.

Freshman of the Week – Colby Shelton, Alabama

Shelton, hit five home runs, drove in 12 runs and led his team in nearly every offensive category during the Crimson Tide’s four-game stretch last week. Six of his seven hits went for extra bases, and two of his home runs were grand slams. He homered in three straight games during the UIC series and posted three multi-RBI contests for the week
