One of the top offensive line prospects in the 2023 class is heading to Florida State in four-star offensive tackle Lucas Simmons. Simmons signed with the Seminoles during Wednesday’s start of the early signing period.

An FSU commitment over the summer that sits just outside the top 100 prospects nationally, according to the On3 Consensus, Simmons selected the ‘Noles over Tennessee, USC, and Florida, among others. Simmons rates as the No. 10 offensive tackle in the country.

Simmons is a native of Sweden who moved to the United States to star at Clearwater International Academy, and he ranks as the highest-rated offensive line prospect to sign with FSU during the Mike Norvell era.

In a recent interview with Warchant.com last week, Simmons explained his deep bond with Florida State offensive coordinator Alex Atkins.

“It was great. It’s always a lot of love any time you see him,” Simmons said. “It’s more than football always with him. … Just the vibe when he walks into the room. He’s an open guy, easy to talk to. Everybody realizes that when you are around him. He’s so very genuine.”

Simmons continued on his belief in the vision of the ‘Noles under Norvell.

“While they were recruiting me before I committed, there was just something different about it in believing what they were doing,” Simmons said. “Every school says they are going to turn around, but you could see it and feel what was happening. I think it’s only going to get better and better.”

Here is an On3 scouting summary of Simmons before his senior season.

Developmental offensive tackle prospect with rare dimensions, movement skills and upside. Originally from Sweden and came to the United States shortly after picking up football in high school. Measured over 6-foot-7, 293 pounds with a 6-foot-11 wing-span prior to his senior season. A nimble, light-footed mover. Moves to the second level with ease. Bouncy and carries his weight very well. Posed a 4.66 second shuttle prior to his senior season. Undeveloped technically and still learning the game. Will need to hone his technical skills while continuing to increase strength and physicality at the point of attack. Will likely need some time to be ready to play considerable snaps at the college level, but has considerable physical upside. Very old for the class and will turn 20 years old mid-way through his senior year of high school.
