Wide receiver wasn’t a huge position of need in this transfer cycle for Florida State, but the Seminoles didn’t hesitate to go after one of the nation’s top prospects when he showed initial interest.

And on Wednesday, Mike Norvell and his staff saw their efforts rewarded, as former Michigan State standout Keon Coleman announced he will continue his college career at Florida State. He made his decision after taking official visits to Florida State and then Ole Miss. It came down to those two schools but in the end it was the feeling he had about the Noles and that explosive offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate QB Jordan Travis.

Coleman, who led the Spartans with 58 catches for 798 yards and seven touchdowns last season, is the second-highest-ranked uncommitted receiver in the transfer portal this cycle, according to On3. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at FSU.

The addition of Coleman gives Florida State yet another big-bodied receiver to go with a talented position group. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, and he will join the likes of 6-7 Johnny Wilson, 6-3 Kentron Poitier, 6-3 Darion Williamson, 6-4 Deuce Spann and 6-2 Hykeem Williams. The Seminoles also have several smaller and quicker receivers to complement that group, despite the post-spring departure of Mycah Pittman.

Coleman, a Louisiana native, was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and chose Michigan State over Oklahoma and several other schools.

He is the latest impressive addition to a Florida State offense that already ranked among the best in the country last season. In January, the Seminoles added tight end transfers Jaheim Bell and Kyle Morlock, and three offensive linemen who started at their previous schools — Jeremiah Byers (UTEP), Casey Roddick (Colorado) and Keiondre Jones (Auburn).
