As expected, the Florida State football team will be playing in prime time on Sept. 3 to open the season against LSU in Camping World Stadium. Disney announced on Tuesday the game would be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. on ABC during the network’s Upfront Presentation.

This will be the ninth time in the last 11 years that Florida State has been in the prime-time slot during ESPN’s college football kickoff weekend.

Both Florida State and LSU are coming off of wins in Orlando to end the 2022 season. Florida State beat Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl, 35-32, securing the Seminoles’ first 10-win season since 2016.

Only a few days later, in the same stadium, LSU throttled Purdue 63-7 to also secure a 10-win season.

Florida State leads the overall series against LSU 8-2, including a dramatic win in the Caesars Superdome last year. After both teams enjoyed strong endings to their seasons, this is expected to be a top-10 matchup to open the season.

On3’s JD PicKell called it a “September playoff game” during The Hard Count and On3’s new roundtable series.

“Both teams, they’ve got their eyes on the prize now,” PicKell said. “Conference title and go play for a College Football Playoff berth. That is both these teams’ goals in their respective conferences.”

This will also be Florida State’s third straight year going up against head coach Brian Kelly in Week 1. FSU is currently 1-1 against Kelly in the Mike Norvell era. The loss came in overtime against Notre Dame in 2021.
