National Champs Again! Seminoles knock off No. 1 seed Stanford, 1-0, claim FSU's 5th soccer title
The Florida State women’s soccer team knocked off No. 1 seed Stanford, 1-0, Monday night in Kansas City and won its fifth national championship in school history.
The offensive hero once again was Wrianna Hudson, who scored with just over three minutes remaining to break a scoreless tie. In the semifinals of the College Cup, Hudson scored in the 73rd minute to give Florida State a 1-0 win over TCU.
This is the Seminoles’ second national title in the last three years and second under head coach Brian Pensky. It is Florida State’s third national championship in the last five years and fifth in school history.
Stanford was 21-1-2 on the season and won the ACC regular-season championship with a 9-0-1 record and also claimed the ACC tournament title.
Along with Hudson’s heroics, Florida State also played exceptional defense and got a great performance in goal by freshman keeper Kate Ockene. She had nine saves on the night, including multiple ones at close range in the first half. This was on the heels of her save in the final seconds on Friday night to preserve the win over TCU.
“She’s a little animal,” Pensky said. “It’s big-time. She’s the MVP of this match, and that’s what great goalkeepers have to do.”
And Hudson, a sophomore, is proving to be a great goal-scorer in her second season of college soccer.
She finished the season with a team-high 15 goals and now has 24 in her career. None compare to what happened on Monday night, when she took a pass from Taylor Suarez in front of the box that snuck past a Stanford defender and then deposited it in the left corner of the goal.

A second later, she was tackled by star junior Jordynn Dudley and then mobbed by her teammates. Three minutes later, they were celebrating a fifth star for the program.
“I learned that with grit and hard work and just being animals you can do anything,” Hudson said after the game.
It was a different kind of national championship season for the Seminoles in 2025.
Unlike the previous ones, Florida State had its share of struggles this fall. Relatively speaking, of course. As Pensky pointed out after the game, his team started the season 7-0-1. And then had a stretch of seven games in which it went 3-2-3. Quite un-Florida State like.
“That’s not beautiful,” Pensky said. “And then they just finished the season 6-0 in the NCAA Tournament with a national championship.”
Not a bad response at all.
And Pensky said he couldn’t be more proud of what his players accomplished this season.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “So proud of my team. So resilient. So tough. They weathered the storm in the second half, but they believed. Our bench was amazing. Our energy was amazing. And we found a way to get a goal.”
And yet another national championship.
