In his opening statement, Novell praised the play of wide receiver Deuce Spann, saying he displayed his speed and perhaps had his best day of camp. Defensively, he was pleased with the play of linebacker Tatum Bethune.

Norvell said he saw explosive plays out of the run game and that the defense responded well in the red zone. On the whole, he characterized it as, “a good start.” The scrimmage was scheduled to be held in Doak Campbell Stadium but was held inside the indoor practice facility due to lightning.
