Abdur-Rahim shines as Georgia Basketball falls for fourth straight time

The Georgia Bulldogs basketball team dropped their fourth straight game in a 68-65 loss to the Wofford Terriers on Sunday afternoon. The Dawgs fell to 2-5 on the season after starting 2-1. Former Georgia player and Bulldog basketball alum Jay McAuley is the head coach for the Terriers.

While the scoreboard showed a close game, Georgia’s 13 second-half turnovers were simply too much to overcome.

Jabri Abdur-Rahim, the transfer from Virginia, had his Georgia coming-out party for the Dawgs, leading all scorers with 20 points. He also had four rebounds off the bench as he went 6-for-7 shooting from the field, making four of his five 3-pointers.

In the post-game press conference, Georgia head coach Tom Crean explained that he was already prepared to turn on the film from the game and review what went wrong. To him, the game was out of the ordinary.

“Usually when you shoot 70% in the second half, you’re not going to lose the game,” Crean said. “But we gave up too many free-throws and too many easy baskets.”

Georgia finished with a better field goal percentage and 3-point percentage, while out-rebounding the Terriers, 32-29. However, the Bulldogs turned the ball over 19 times, while the Terriers only gave the ball up eight times.

Earlier this week, Georgia starting point guard Aaron Cook commented on the Bulldogs ball-control struggles, citing their lack of chemistry as a source of the problem.

“With 10 new guys, sometimes there can be egos and things that get in the way of our success. I think this group of guys is really willing to learn,” Cook said. “Everyone is buying into what we’re trying to do and the chemistry is starting to flow. We took a step back with the last two games, but I think going forward we’re only going to get better and better.”

Georgia is back in action at Stegeman Coliseum where they will face off against the No. 9 Memphis Tigers. Memphis lost its last game to Iowa State and is likely to fall out of the top-10, however, the talent is still there for Penny Hardaway’s team.

Georgia and Memphis last met during the 2019 season when Anthony Edwards and the Bulldogs knocked off the No. 9 Tigers 65-62 on the road at FedEx Forum.

Wednesday’s game will tip-off at 7:15 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
