Adam Anderson has decided to move on from College Football and prepare for the NFL Draft.

According to Seth Emerson of The Athletic, the now former Georgia outside linebacker is no longer trying to return to the team in Athens amidst legal controversy stemming from his felony rape charge in November. He played four seasons for the Bulldogs totaling 68 tackles including a career-high 32 in 2021 with 5.5. coming for loss.

Anderson was arrested on November 10 after news broke less than a week earlier that he was being investigated for rape allegations. Anderson’s name appeared in a police report filed on the morning of Friday, October 29, the day before Georgia played Florida. The report said, “The victim stated that she went to a residence after having some drinks and awoke to the suspect penetrating her while she was lying (in) a bed.” She also stated that it was nonconsensual and that she was able to leave. No contact had been made with Anderson at the time of the report.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a University of Georgia spokesman stated that Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia Athletic Association was not made aware of the allegations until the Monday after the game. Anderson was suspended indefinitely, a suspension which he and his attorney Steven Sadow requested after denying the allegations and meeting with the University’s Equal Opportunity Office according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

“We are aware of the report and we don’t comment on law enforcement matters, but I’ve been clear about the high standards we have for our student-athletes on and off the field,” Smart said in a statement released last Thursday evening after the news first broke. “I will be working closely with our administration to ensure we cooperate fully with all law enforcement and campus protocols.”

Following Georgia’s 43-6 victory over Missouri, in which Anderson did not play, Smart reiterated to his statement, this time in person.

“With it being an ongoing legal situation matter, I can’t talk about it and I can’t comment on it,” Smart said. “I will tell you we are cooperating fully with all the law enforcement and campus organizations. That’s all I can say about it. If you want to ask, I’m going to have to stick to that statement.”

Prior to his arrest, Anderson was widely projected as a first round pick. Anderson’s proceedings on the legal front remain ongoing.
