Georgia tight end Brock Bowers was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday in an announcement coming out of the conference office in Birmingham. Bowers at least matched his season-long totals coming into this past Saturday’s game against South Carolina, finishing with five catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a 5-yard rushing score, the second of his career.

Bowers becomes the second Bulldog to bring home SEC Player of the Week honors after Christopher Smith did so following the opener against Oregon.

“You never really know. I just came out playing the game like I did the last two games too,” Bowers said after the game when asked if he knew a day like Saturday’s could happen. “Sometimes it just works out that way I guess.”

“The first one felt good because it my first one of the year. They all felt good. The long one and the fade, they both felt good.”

Bowers was named to the AP and Coaches’ All-SEC First Team last season finishing as the team’s leading wide receiver. He started 13 of 15 games for the Bulldogs at tight end, hauling in 56 catches for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns, the most receiving touchdowns by a player at any position in program history. On top of the All-SEC honors, Bowers won SEC Freshman of the Year from both the AP and Coaches, also taking home National Freshman of the Year awards from the Football Writers Association of America. Despite all that, this is Bowers first time winning SEC Offensive Player of the Week, however, he did take home SEC Freshman of the Week twice last year, once after a three-touchdown day versus Vanderbilt and again after catching five passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns against Kentucky.

“I don’t even know his numbers. I knew he looked fast running down the field,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Bowers after the game when asked how he looked on Saturday. “The thing about Brock that is so hard that you don’t get to measure is the amount of attention he draws. You know, 121, whatever that is, yards. But, you know, three or four of those plays that Brock made, there were people blocking down the field — elite blocking down the field.”

On the season, Bowers has 10 catches, 216 yards and his two touchdowns from Saturday. He’s also been a big part of Georgia’s perimeter blocking, helping clear the path for Ladd McConkey on the Bulldogs’ first touchdown of the season. The Napa, Calif. native will look to add to those totals this Saturday when Bowers and the Bulldogs are back in action at home in Sanford Stadium taking on Kent State. Kickoff time is set for 12:00 p.m. ET, streaming on SEC Network+.
