Georgia tight end Pearce Spurlin will reignite his football career. He won’t be doing it in Athens. The former four-star signee has announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

Spurlin signed with Georgia as the No. 68 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings and the No. 2 tight end in the 2023 class.

Spurlin played in eight games as a freshman at Georgia.

He was forced to step away from football last spring with a congenital heart condition. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart announced Spurlin’s status ahead of Georgia’s spring practices back in 2024.

“He’s going to have to take a medical disqualification,” Smart said. “He will no longer be able to play football… Spurlin has a congenital heart condition that representatives from Georgia were aware of and that they have closely monitored. Over time and after discussion and counseling with medical specialists, Spurlin and his family have made the decision that he will no longer play. He will remain on scholarship, continue with his studies at Georgia and work with the football team in another role.”

Spurlin remained around the Georgia program for the last two seasons. He had a procedure earlier this year and appears to have been cleared to resume his football career. Sprulin provided a statement on his X account. According to Spurlin, he is unable to continue his career at Georgia due to the school medically disqualifying him.

Sprulin considers his time at Georgia ‘nothing but special’.

More from Spurlin in his statement below.

He is the second Bulldog to enter the transfer portal, along with Daniel Harris.
