Friday night has a big game in store for Georgia basketball. The Bulldogs will host Georgia Tech in Stegeman Coliseum.

Both teams enter the game sitting at 3-0. Georgia has flashed its’ new, uptempo style through the first three games. The Bulldogs average 106 points per game after the first week of games.

Friday is a step up in competition. It’s also a rivalry game. Georgia went into the week of preparation with the intent of not making the game bigger than it is.

There’s also a tongue-in-cheek expectation that this one matters for those who support both teams.

“I’d be contradicting myself if I said this one was bigger than Bellarmine, or Morehead State, or the Troy Exhibition, or our practice in a couple of days,” Mike White told reporters after Sunday’s game. “It’s what we preach daily, it’s growth, let’s get better, every practice, every shoot around, every film session, every strength and conditioning session, every tutoring session, the ranking center, you know, we’re trying to make ourselves better. You know, we’re trying to become the best version of ourselves, same thing as a team, of course, so yeah, we can’t get too emotional. I know this one’s really important to our fans, of course, it’ll be rocking here Friday night, can’t imagine it won’t be an exciting environment, but we’d better be more concerned with their personnel and how we’re trying to attack them offensively and defensively.”

Georgia’s new faces set for first taste of rivalry

Georgia has eight new faces in the rotation this season. Two of those new faces, Jeremiah Wilkinson and Justin Bailey, will get their first taste of the rivalry on Friday night.

Wilkinson lived in Atlanta before heading to college at California. He’s familiar with the rivalry. Wilkinson lived near Georgia Tech’s campus growing up. He had no allegiances to either program.

“Everybody talks about this rivalry,” Wilkinson told reporters. “You know, I grew up in Georgia, so I lived 35 minutes from Georgia Tech, so you hear everybody talk about it. To play in the game, knowing that the stadium is going to be packed out, it’s a big weekend, it’s just exciting. I’m looking at the opportunity we have ahead of us.”

Georgia and Georgia Tech will tip off at 9 p.m. on Friday night.
