Georgia attacked its woes against Alabama in pursuit of SEC title
Georgia was ‘hit between the eyes’ with the reality of its struggles against Alabama. The Bulldogs were 1-7 against Alabama under Kirby Smart.
Kirby Smart and the Georgia staff had a team meeting where they asked players to stand up if they’d beaten Alabama.
“None of them stood up,” Smart told reporters after Saturday’s win over Alabama. “It was a very moving piece… It probably hit right in between the eyes of doing it for the seniors, and so many of them have been through heartbreaking losses that they wanted to do it.”
Georgia came out aggressively on Saturday night. It left no doubt. The message of the Georgia standard was upheld, according to its players. There was no extra sauce on Saturday, despite what was at stake and against whom.
“We try to go out of every game and play Georgia football,” Georgia cornerback and SEC Championship Game defensive MVP Daylen Everette said. “This is just a game on a big stage, and I feel like we executed and did everything the right way.”

Georgia takes pride in the SEC Championship
Winning the SEC Championship means a lot in Athens. Smart has been vocal about how much Georgia wanted to play in Saturday’s game.
Following the game, he once again gave praise to the conference for the event as a whole and what it means for the program.
“I mean, it’s one of the greatest championship games you can play in for a great conference,” Smart told reporters after the game. “So I have respect for that. Our administration, Josh Brooks, Jere Morehead do an incredible job supporting these players and helping them out. Then all the credit goes to the players who have had a very long, tough, hard season. The kids in our program buy into hard. I appreciate their toughness and the way they do things. That pays off in the long run. To win back-to-back SEC championships, it’s every kid in this footprint’s dream and honor to be at Georgia and be able to be the head coach here and win games like this.”
Georgia will await its fate tomorrow as the College Football Playoff selection will take place.
