College Baseball is entering the final week of the season, and Georgia is in the thick of things when it comes to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs are 34-18 overall and 14-13 in the SEC. That’s good for seventh place in the league behind Tennessee (22-5), Texas A&M (17-10), Arkansas (17-10) and Auburn (15-11) while tied with Vanderbilt and LSU with the same conference record. Both the Commodores and Tigers hold the tiebreaker advantage though having beaten the Bulldogs in series this season, however they play each other this weekend, giving Georgia a chance to pass one, if not both, with a series win. Meanwhile, Georgia hosts the last place team in the league, Missouri, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Foley Field with the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala. beginning a week from today. There the top four seeds receive byes into the double-elimination stage while seeds 5-12 face off in a single-elimination play in game on Tuesday.

Seeding Situations

  1. Should Georgia sweep Missouri, thus finishing with a 17-13 record in the SEC, the Bulldogs would pass the loser of the Vanderbilt-LSU series. If that series does not end in a sweep, Georgia would pass both teams and get up to at least No. 5.
  2. Georgia fans should also be rooting for Kentucky this weekend when the Wildcats take on Auburn in Lexington – where they beat the Bulldogs twice earlier this season. If Kentucky takes at least two of three from Auburn, the Tigers would finish with no better than a 16-13 thus giving Georgia a better win percentage in the conference, still assuming a sweep over Missouri, allowing Georgia to get up to No. 4 in that scenario.
  3. Absolute chaos would have to ensue for Georgia to be tied with Texas A&M and Arkansas with both needing to be swept this weekend and for the Bulldogs to sweep Missouri. However, just so you all know, the Aggies and Razorback both hit the road, traveling to Ole Miss and Alabama respectively.
  4. If Georgia takes two of three from Missouri and finishes with a 16-14 record in the SEC, you’re looking at them potentially in the same category as a non-sweep winner of Vanderbilt-LSU. With at least one win at Kentucky, Auburn would be ahead of both teams in this scenario and in the No. 4 seed based on win percentage at 16-13 as opposed to 16-14. The Vanderbilt-LSU winner would also be ahead of Georgia based on head to head, but the Bulldogs would be in the six-seed instead of their current seven-slot.
  5. If Georgia drops its series against Missouri, either 1-2 or 0-3, you can count out passing even the loser of Vanderbilt-LSU based on head to head or Auburn based on win percentage. The best seeding scenario would be No. 7, and at that point, the teams trying to chase would come into the conversations. Florida and Ole Miss both sit at at 13-14 in the league with both teams at home this weekend. The Gators host the Gamecocks of South Carolina while we mentioned earlier that A&M travels to Oxford for a matchup against the red-hot Rebels. South Carolina at 12-15 would be a long shot to catch up to Georgia, needing both to sweep Florida and for Georgia to be swept by Missouri. Lucky for Georgia, even in the case of a tie with either Florida or South Carolina, the Bulldogs have the tiebreaker having beaten both in series earlier this season.

Georgia took care of business on Tuesday night against Presbyterian, beating the Blue Hose 18-3 behind a big night from the Bulldog bats. The team will be back in action tomorrow (Thursday), Friday and Saturday against Missouri with first pitch from Foley Field scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
