Georgia’s Class of 2023 took a hit on Monday as four-star wide receiver Raymond Cottrell announced his flip from Georgia across the SEC to Texas A&M. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound pass catcher out of Milton, Fla. had been committed to Kirby Smart and company since November of 2021. He is ranked the No. 23 wide receiver and just outside the top 150 overall at No. 151 according to the On3 Consensus. On3’s in-house rankings had him a little bit lower at No. 182 overall and No. 27 among players at his position.

Cottrell spoke with On3’s Hayes Fawcett and shared that former Georgia offensive coordinator and current Texas A&M wide receivers coach James Coley was one of the biggest reasons for the decision. Coley recruited the state of Florida well during his time in Athens and the addition of Cottrell is another example of it now in College Station.

Georgia doesn’t come up empty handed at wide receiver in the Class of 2023 though. In fact, the Bulldogs are bringing in five already. Tyler Williams, Anthony Evans and Yazeed Haynes all signed with Georgia during the Early Signing Period on December 21st. Then, the next day, the Bulldogs announced the addition of two wide receivers from the transfer portal: Mississippi State’s Rara Thomas and Missouri’s Dominic Lovett. All three of the high school signees are already on campus and working out with the team during the bowl season.

The loss of Cottrell in the class leaves just one player that’s currently committed as unsigned. Offensive lineman Jamal Meriweather from Brunswick, Ga. plans to sign in February after a late flip from UCF to Georgia. Even without its second highest-rated receiver commit ending up in the class, Georgia still ranks No. 2 in the country behind only Alabama.
