Georgia Basketball falls to 2-3 on the season after a tough loss to the 3-2 Virginia Cavaliers, with a final score of 65-55. The two teams were neck-and-neck for the majority of the contest, but the Dawgs’ 16 turnovers were too much to overcome.

Braelen Bridges led Georgia in scoring points with 14 but fouled out late in the second half. Jailyn Ingram recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, also adding two assists. Aaron Cook had eight assists with only one turnover, but the Dawgs’ leading scorer on the season finished the game with just four points.

There were a lot of encouraging takeaways for the Bulldogs in their loss to the Cavaliers. Against Georgia Tech last Friday, the Dawgs went 50% from the free-throw line, a season-low by a significant margin. Against Virginia, Georgia finished with an 80% free-throw percentage, hitting on 12 of their 15 attempts.

Georgia also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Virginia by a significant margin, 42-29. The Dawgs snagged 13 offensive rebounds while the Cavaliers only finished with 6.

Unfortunately, with the good must come the bad. As mentioned early Aaron Cook, the transfer from Gonzaga and the Dawgs’ leading scorer on the year, finished the game with only four points. He went 2-for-12 in all field goals and 0-for-5 from the three-point line. Altogether, the Dawgs went 3-for-21 from the 3-point line, a measly 14.3%.

A consistent problem for Georgia for multiple years now has been their turnover issues. Against Virginia, the Bulldogs turned the ball over 16 times, which was only made worse by the fact that the Cavaliers finished the game with only four turnovers.

Armaan Franklin, a junior guard for the Cavaliers, led all scorers in points with 23, also pulling in six rebounds and three steals. The Bulldogs struggled to find an answer for Franklin, and he made them pay in the end.

The Dawgs are set to play the Northwestern Wildcats (4-1) tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 p.m. ET in New Jersey. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 2. The Dawgs’ next home game will this upcoming Sunday against the Wofford Terriers.
