Georgia has already begun preparations for No. 4 Ohio State in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. Starting next week they’ll have more bodies to work with on the practice field as nine early enrollees will begin practicing with the team.

Four of the newcomers will be on the offensive side of the ball and they’re all pass catchers. Four-star tight end Lawson Luckie, a UGA legacy, is in that group. It also includes a trio of four-star wideouts in Tyler Williams, Anthony Evans, and Yazeed Haynes.

The other five are on the defensive side of the ball. The group is heavy with linebackers. Four-star defensive lineman Jamal Jarrett and five-star cornerback A.J. Harris are the non-linebackers. Outside linebacker Gabriel Harris and inside linebackers CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson, all four-star prospects, round out the group.

Those players will have to go through two helmets-only practices as part of the NCAA-mandated acclimation period before they’ll be allowed to practice in shoulder pads. They will not be allowed to practice with the team once Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl activities begin. Those will get started once the team comes back together after breaking for Christmas on December 23.

The Early Signing Period doesn’t begin until December 21, but they are able to join the program just like players used to enroll early despite not being able to sign until February. At least two more players are expected to enroll early at Georgia and there will likely be more. Four-star tight end Pearce Spurlin has already announced that he’ll enroll in January. Five-star outside linebacker Samuel M’Pemba is also set to begin classes at that time. It is unclear if either of them will be able to practice before the team breaks next week.

Georgia is bringing in another elite class…

The Bulldogs currently have the nation’s No. 2 class for the 2023 cycle with some meat left on the bone. They are still after five-star prospects Damon Wilson (EDGE) and Duce Robinson (tight end), as well as high-four-star defensive tackle Jordan Hall and former commitment Daniel Harris, a cornerback. Georgia also continue to recruit targets committed to other schools.

It’s unlikely that Kirby Smart and company can run down Alabama for the top spot but it’s not impossible. If the Bulldogs back 1.000 with those remaining targets and their commitments/signees favor well in the final set of rankings, the No. 1 spot isn’t out of the question.

Georgia is looking to lock down this class while also navigating the NCAA’s student-athlete transfer portal and preparing for the playoff for the second straight season. The Bulldogs and Buckeyes will play on December 31 with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. UGA is currently the 6.5 points favorite according to most sports books.
