Georgia started off a big weekend in Athens by landing a verbal commitment from the nation’s top overall punter in Drew Miller from Mediapolis, Iowa. He’s the Bulldogs’ 13th pledge of the 2024 class.

Miller committed to Georgia over Texas, NC State and multiple other offers. Michigan, Iowa, Iowa State, and NC State all hosted him for multiple visits. He spoke with DawgsHQ about his decisionon Thursday evening, detailing why UGA is the place for him.

“It is a great program,” Miller said of the back-to-back National Champions. “I have built some really good relationships with some guys there like Peyton Woodring and Will Snellings and the coaches.”

Georgia currently has a punter who is entering his sophomore season. Brett Thorson, an Australia native, is coming off a consistently stellar freshman campaign despite not being used a whole lot. It was the past history of punters that attracted him to Georgia.

“Looking at the them and the ability to put punters in the NFL, like Jake Carmada and just the relationships I have with that program,” he told DawgsHQ. ‘I have been down there four times too.’

Scott Cochran, who has spent a great deal of time recruiting on the road this spring due to Will Muschamp’s hip surgery, served as the lead recruiter for Miller. He was in Iowa to visit the talented specialist recently.

Kohl’s Professional Kicking Camps has a lofty opinion of Miller. It views him as a five-star punter and the nation’s No. 1 player at that position. Kohl’s also likes Miller as a place-kicker, where he is also rated as a five-star prospect. He is ranked No. 26 overall as at that position.

“Miller most recently competed at the 2022 National Invitational Scholarship Camp in July of 2022. Miller again proved to be one of the top kicker/punter combos in the 2024 class. Miller’s punt score of 111.95 was outstanding. At the 2021 Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp, he scored 25 points on field goal charts and even won the field goal competition held at the end of camp. He also charted extremely well in punting, averaging 113.4 points in charting with multiple punts over 4.7 seconds of hang-time. Miller shows tremendous leg speed and power in both kicking and punting, making him one of the most exciting prospects in his class!” — Kohl’s Professional Kicking Camps

With Thorson on scholarship along with Woodring and Jared Zirkel, Georgia could have as many as four specialists on scholarship in 2024.
