Signing Day got an early start for the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday, having the first player put pen to paper at 4:43 p.m. ET.

How you might ask? Well, it’s possible if you are signing a player from across the world, and it’s the next day overseas. In Georgia’s case, that would be 2022 punter Brett Thorson out of Melbourne, Australia and Pro Kick Australia. Georgia Football made his signing official with an announcement on Twitter.

Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley, who has handled special teams duties at times during his career, is listed as Thorson’s primary recruiter. Hartley actually signed a former ProKick prospect Louis Hedley during his time at Miami. Meanwhile, the Aussie also named Kirby Smart and Scott Cochran in his commitment message on March 31, 2021.

“To coach Hartley, coach Smart and coach Cochran, thank you for this life-changing opportunity and I look forward to what’s to come, along with my family and friends I can’t thank you enough for supporting this decision every step of the way and helping me get to this point so far,” Thorson wrote. “I can’t wait to get to Athens, join the family, get to work, and play in front of the best fans in the nation!!! Go Dawgs”

Rated a three-star by both On3 Sports’ in-house recruiting ratings and the industry-composite On3 Consensus, Thorson comes in as the No. 3 punter in the Class of 2022. His program, ProKick, has put out 75 players to the United States that has received scholarships or signed contracts, including 17 All-Americans and five Ray Guy Award winners. This year alone ProKick has five of the top six punters according to the On3 Consenus.

With the expected departure of current punter Jake Camarda, an All-SEC player according to both the AP and league’s 14 head coaches, there could be opportunity for Thorson to play immediately. After all, Camarda did so. Thorson will be enrolling early and participating in spring practice with his new team whether or not Camarda decides to test the professional waters.

As for the rest of Georgia’s 2022 recruiting class, currently ranked No. 1 in the country just ahead of Alabama and Texas A&M, those signings will come throughout the day on Wednesday. The Bulldogs currently have 27 players committed including four On3 Consensus five-stars – Malaki Starks, Mykel Williams, Jaheim Singletary and Daylen Everette.
