Georgia golf alums with the best PGA Championship odds at Southern Hills

Oddsmakers have little love for Georgia golf alums going into the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

Eight Dawgs on tour will tee off Thursday in Oklahoma.

The forecast looks like Oklahoma in May, alright. Hot with a chance of thunder.

At least it isn’t August, like the last time Southern Hills hosted an oven of a PGA Championship in 2007.

If anyone can withstand unpredictable, hot weather, I’d think it would be someone with experience playing Georgia golf

But what do I know.

Southern Hills will play a par 70 at 7,400+ yards.

For context, Kiawah Island played 7,800+ when Phil Mickelson won last year. That made it the longest course in major history.

So if a Dawg is going to win the PGA Championship in Tulsa, he’ll have to pack an accurate punch off the tee, with consistent iron work.

Here’s what the oddsmakers think, courtesy of VegasInsider. For reference, the leading odds-on favorite is Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler at +1100.

Brian Harman tied for best odds among Georgia golf alums at +15000

Turkey season is over, which means Brian Harman’s focus can rest squarely on golf.

Harman finished T9 at the Wells Fargo Championship on May 8th, and has three other top-10 finishes this year.

Keith Mitchell among Dawgs on tour with +15000 odds

Keith Mitchell is no longer the young pup on tour.

He doesn’t have a top-10 finish since the Honda Classic in February, but he does have three such efforts this year.

If Mitchell has anything that can help him at Southern Hills, it’s his ninth-best ‘strokes gained off the tee’ metric.

Russell Henley was my sleeper pick to win The Masters. He’s at +15000 here, too

I covered Russell Henley’s career when I worked in local TV news in Macon (where he grew up).

Henley has one of the smoothest mechanical swings of any golfer. He’s a tactician.

He just needs to grind out the game mentally. If Henley can ever do that, he is fully capable of winning a major.

Henley is the second-best on tour at shots gained approaching the green. He has two top-10 finishes this year, and finished T30 at Augusta.

Sepp Straka, the Austrian Dawg, also at +15000

Sepp Straka won the Honda Classic, finished T9 at The PLAYERS, and T3 at the RBC Heritage the week after The Masters.

He’s top-20 in official money for the year at $2.9M. Maybe he can add a few more bucks to the bank in Tulsa.

Other PGA Championship odds from Dawgs on Tour:

Chris Kirk +21000

Bubba Watson +21000

Kevin Kisner +27000

Hudson Swafford +50000
