Georgia National Championship debate & the next Brock Bowers

Georgia has two natties in each of the last two seasons, so we compared them on The Georgia Show. We also dove into the Dawgs’ insane tight end depth with ‘the next Brock Bowers’ already on the roster.

We can’t take credit for the hypothetical discussion around Georgia’s 2021 and 2022 National Champions. Many ask about it on social media and on our Georgia sports beat.

But DawgsHQ hadn’t discussed it yet, so I followed Palmer Thombs’s lead after his article about it this weekend.

I still think we need to discuss LSU 2019 vs Georgia 2021 as well, because of that legendary offense vs defense matchup.

I have to believe Joe Burrow would feel more uncomfortable against the Dawgs’ 2021 defense than he felt against most other teams that 2019 season.

Still, when you look at Georgia’s two championship teams, I can’t help but believe that the mental edge and leadership of the 2022 team would mean a ton.

Maybe that 2021 defense and game control makes you believe those Dawgs would run away with this hypothetical matchup. I don’t think the 2022 team would just lie down and quit, though.

That offense would give all of those defensive Dawgs a heck of a test. You can hear our full debate on this water cooler debate on The Georgia Show (YouTube / Apple / Spotify):

The ‘next Brock Bowers’?

On to something a little more tangible. Maybe.

Jake Rowe has a solid series that features Georgia’s early-enrollees this spring.

His most recent piece focuses on freshman tight end Lawson Luckie. While the article is a premium piece behind our quality DawgsHQ paywall, I did share a juicy nugget from the analysis.

The best comparison between Luckie and any current Dawgs on the roster begins and ends with Brock Bowers.

Yes, the most talented Georgia player you’ve seen in the past decade-plus already has his replacement waiting in the wings.

No pressure, kid.

Dawg Stocks

Every Sunday puts us in the Dawg Stock Market, when we evaluate what’s up and what’s down in the world of Georgia sports.

Jake Reuse and I revisited a debate we had about the most satisfying Georgia flip ever. Roquan Smith‘s UCLA-to-Georgia decision caused ripples that still resonate in Athens and beyond.

Palmer Thombs has all you need to know about the SEC opener week for Georgia’s baseball team.

And stock up on the Lady Dogs basketball team. Georgia opens up the NCAA Tournament as a 10-seed against Florida State on Friday, March 17th.

A St. Patrick’s Day tourney debut. That’s gotta be a lucky omen.
