Georgia's running back situation gets interesting for 2023

Kendall Milton’s hamstring injury made me wonder about Georgia’s running back situation in 2023. Of course, Milton should be able to recover and be ready for fall.

Just because he will miss the rest of spring doesn’t mean he is injury-prone and that Georgia’s coaches can’t rely on him.

Regardless of what the pessimistic Georgia fan thinks about Kendall Milton‘s prognosis, he is still a dangerous back and should have every opportunity to lead the way for the Dawgs’ backfield this season.

But what if he can’t stay healthy?

After watching Kenny McIntosh take the undisputed role of lead Georgia tailback – even in a position group that works by committee – how different will the Dawgs’ position group look this fall?

Will Daijun Edwards or Branson Robinson step up to take the lead?

Or will this truly be a deep platoon of backs in Mike Bobo‘s first season back as Georgia’s offensive coordinator since 2014?

Whatever happens, this figures to be the largest group of Georgia running backs that we’ve seen in quite some time.

Daijun Edwards is the diminutive one of the bunch. But everyone else in the picture (Milton, Robinson, Roderick Robinson and Andrew Paul) brings some mass and thump behind the shoulder pads.

Check out our Wednesday night live edition of The Georgia Show (YouTube / Apple / Spotify) to hear our thoughts on the position group that traditionally sets the tone for the Bulldogs’ offense.

Maybe those days are over. I just can’t help but imagine that Mike Bobo will bring RBU back to prominence in his own special way this season.

April Fools’ moments in Georgia football history

Obviously, Georgia doesn’t play football games on April Fools’ Day.

But the – uh… holiday? – gives us an opportunity to look at Georgia football moments in which the Dawgs pulled a switcheroo on the expected.

Maybe it was the 2004 Georgia team that smacked defending national champion LSU around between the hedges when no one expected them to.

On the flip-side, at least one commenter in our live chat mentioned the entire 2008 Georgia football season.

For me, I can’t look past the ultimate play-action play fakes from David Greene and Aaron Murray that made the Jefferson Pilot camera man and Vanderbilt‘s/Ole Miss‘s defenses look silly.

Most of the time, what you see is what you get with Georgia football.

That doesn’t mean the Dawgs always stick to the script.

Keep your head on a swivel this April Fools’ Day. If you see that Georgia will wear black uniforms in 2023, it’s probably a prank.

Dawgs on the outside looking in on a couple of elite commits?

Duce Robinson and Jake Merklinger flirted with the Dawgs, but Jake Reuse tells us what factors impacted their respective decisions in the end.

This recruitin’ business ain’t for the faint of heart, son.

But the Dawgs are still in good shape regardless of what the incredible tight end talent and emerging quarterback decide to do.

Plus, we chopped some wood about a Georgia golfer that has a chance to make history at Augusta National, Arian Smith‘s renaissance, the Dawgs’ smothering defensive line in 2023, and Georgia’s soft football schedule.

Have a blessed Opening Day and Go Braves.
