Georgia wrapped up its SEC schedule almost two weeks ago with a 35-10 win over Texas. The Longhorns 27-17 win over Texas A&M on Friday night punched the Bulldogs’ ticket to the 2025 SEC Championship game, the programs fifth in a row. One way or another, it’ll be a rematch of a UGA regular-season game.

Texas handed the Aggies their first loss of the season, pushing them to 11-1 on the season and 7-1 in league play. Georgia, having played a tougher conference schedule based on league opponents schedule, wins the tiebreaker over Texas A&M.

If Alabama beats Auburn on Saturday in the Iron Bowl, the Bulldogs will get a rematch vs. the only team to beat them this season. If the Crimson Tide fall to the Tigers, Ole Miss, after its 38-19 win over Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, will get the SEC Championship game nod. Georgia beat the Rebels 43-35 in Athens last month.

The Bulldogs have never beaten Alabama in the SEC Championship game. The two teams have squared off in that game four times, starting in 2012. ‘Bama also has SEC title game wins over UGA in 2018, 2021, and 2023. Each time the Crimson Tide have come out on top. Georgia is, however, 1-0 when playing Alabama for the second time in a season.

Georgia and Ole Miss have never played each other in the SEC Championship game. The Rebels have never even appeared in the game.

Kirby Smart has now taken Georgia to eight SEC Championship games in his 10 years as the head coach. The Bulldogs are 3-5 in those match ups with wins over Auburn, LSU, and Texas. They have the four losses to Alabama plus another to LSU in 2019. Under Smart, Georgia is 2-0 when participating in regular season matchups in the league title game.

Georgia avenged a 40-17 loss to Auburn in Atlanta with a 28-14 win. The Bulldogs beat Texas 30-15 in the regular season last year. Then they topped the Longhorns again 22-19 in overtime.

The 2025 regular season saw Georgia go 11-1. It wrapped up the season Friday afternoon with its eighth straight win over Georgia Tech by a score of 16-9. It was UGA’s worst offensive showing of the season, gaining just 260 total yards. The Bulldogs also held Tech’s potent offense to just 70 rushing yards and 250 total yards. That game, like the SEC Championship Game, took place in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
