ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia avenged its only loss of the season on Saturday with a convincing 28-7 win over Alabama in the 2025 SEC Championship game. The Bulldogs are now 3-0 in SEC Championship games that are rematch of a regular-season game and 2-0 in rematches vs. Alabama. They’re also back-to-back champions of the Southeastern Conference.

Gunner Stockton completed 20 of 26 passes for 156 yards and three scores. Dillon Bell touched the football eight times for 69 yards and a touchdown while Zachariah Branch pitched in with five catches for 53 yards and a score.

Neither team started fast, trading punts on the first two possessions, but it was Alabama’s second punt of the game that got things going for the Bulldogs. Senior wideout Cole Speer came off the edge and blocked it, giving it to the Bulldog offense Alabama 21-yard line.

Georgia needed just four plays to reach the end zone with Stockton finding Roderick Robinson, who lined up at fullback on the play, from one yard out to open the scoring. Peyton Woodring’s PAT staked the Bulldogs to a 7-0 lead.

The Bulldog defense made a play on the ensuing series. Ty Simpson dropped back to throw on third down and had the pass tipped twice, once at the line of scrimmage and a second by KJ Bolden. Daylen Everette picked the pass off, setting Georgia up at its own 43-yard line.

Stockton and company cashed in again. This time he hit Bell for a touchdown from five yards out. Woodring’s PAT pushed the lead to 14-0.

That was it for the scoring in the first half. Georgia used a lot of clock to get across midfield at the end of the second quarter, but the drive stalled and Alabama took a knee to send the game to the half.

Alabama got the ball first to start the second half but went three and out. Georgia, after 24-yard return from Zachariah Branch, went back to work. The Bulldogs went 40 yards on six plays with Frazier ripping off a nine-yard touchdown run to make it a three-score game. Woodring’s PAT pushed the lead to 21-0.

The Crimson Tide the Georgia run in the fourth quarter with a long touchdown drive that started at their own nine-yard line. UGA cornerback Demello Jones helped them with two 15-yard penalties, an unnecessary roughness penalty after a sack and then a defensive pass interference penalty on third down. Alabama capped it off with a 23-yard touchdown from Simpson to Germie Bernard. Poor tackling allowed him to take the screen pass to the end zone and the PAT cut Georgia’s lead to 21-7.

While Georgia couldn’t do anything more than scratch out one first down with its next possession, it gave Brett Thorson a chance to punt Alabama to its own four-yard line. The Crimson Tide decided to go for it on 4th and 2 from its own 12, and the Bulldogs got the stop.

Three plays later, Stockton found Branch for the dagger. He threw to Branch in the left flat, and he did the rest, scoring from 13 yards out to give Georgia a three-score lead. Woodring’s PAT made it 28-7 in favor of the Dawgs.

That was how the scoring would end as Georgia held Alabama on fourth down one more time and rang out the rest of the clock on offense. The Bulldogs will wait less than 24 hours to find out their postseason fate. The College Football Playoff Selection Show is set for Sunday, December 7 at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN.
