ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia outlasted Georgia Tech in a rock fight on Black Friday, earning its eighth straight rivalry by a score of 16-9. The Bulldogs finish the regular season 11-1 and are locks to make the College Football Playoff.

Gunner Stockton had a rough outing, completing 11 of 21 passes for just 70 yards. He had one touchdown and one interception. Nate Frazier carried the ball 16 times for 108 yards, but just five of those totes came in the second half. Zachariah Branch caught five passes for 53 yards and a score.

Georgia committed the first turnover of the game after a defensive stop. On third down from UGA territory, Stockton was intercepted by Tah’j Butler at the Georgia 37-yard line. The Yellow Jackets used the short field to draw first blood, kicking a 30-yard field goal take a 3-0 lead.

The answer from Georgia was a field goal of its own. The Bulldogs went on a 13-play, 71-yard march that stalled at the Tech four-yard line. Peyton Woodring came on to kick a short field goal and tie the game at three.

The Yellow Jackets went three and out on their next series, and Georgia responded by adding another score. This time it was Stockton finding Branch for a touchdown from seven yards out, a third-down conversion. The PAT gave UGA the lead at 10-3.

After another three and out from the Georgia Tech offense, the Bulldogs put together another scoring drive. They used nine plays to travel 55 yards, ending it with a 30-yard field goal from Woodring to take a 13-3 lead with one second left in the half.

After Georgia couldn’t move the chains with its opening possession of the second half, Tech threatened but an an Ellis Robinson interception at the Tech four-yard line ended that threat. The Bulldogs, however, couldn’t get anything going offensively after moving the chains just once. They ended up punting from deep in their own territory, giving the ball back to the Yellow Jackets near midfield. They only picked up 27 yards but it was enough to get Aidan Burr in position to kick a 40-yard field goal to cut the game to one score at 13-6.

UGA had another answer, but not a touchdown. The Bulldogs used 11 plays to travel 42 yards with Woodring hitting a 50-yard field goal to extend Georgia’s lead back to 10 points at 16-6.

After that, the two teams traded punts before Tech got on the board for a third time. Two 15-yard penalties on Georgia aided a 64-yard march from the Yellow Jackets, but it stalled at the UGA 24-yard line. Burr hammered home a 41-yard field goal to make it a 16-9 game.

The Bulldogs got the ball back with 3:30 left on the clock and milked the vast majority of it before punting it back to Tech. It managed a first down and Tech, even with the benefit of two of its timeouts and the two-minute stoppage, couldn’t keep UGA from taking off three minutes and 16 seconds off the clock.

The Yellow Jackets got the ball back with 14 seconds left and got itself in position to throw a hail marry that was batted down by Jaden Reddell as time expired, giving the Bulldogs the victory.
