It’s Georgia vs Kent State week. The Dawgs are 3-0, number one in the land, and the rat poision is a-flowin’.

Back again, DawgsHQ returns with another Wednesday conversation.

Last week, I spoke with the Punt and Pass Podcast duo of Drew Butler and Jake Fromm.

Let’s keep the former Georgia quarterback, Georgia media and alliterative podcast theme going.

My former podcast partner (long live Shock & Ship), SEC Champion, and Dawgs quarterback legend D.J. Shockley was generous enough to share a football quarter’s worth of time with me.

Game time, that is. These Nick Saban commercials are taking too much of my time these days.

And like Kirby Smart, my time is precious.

Your time is precious, too. Let’s highlight what Shockley had to say about the Dawgs

D.J. Shockley is everywhere these days.

He’s on the Georgia Bulldogs radio crew.

He’s on your television as a sports anchor at FOX5 Atlanta.

The man is relentless.

Here’s how he’s doing these days. How can the dedicated worker and leader of the Shockley household balance it all?

“When I first took this on a year ago, I asked myself the same question: ‘How was I going to balance it?’ Because right now, it’s seven days a week,” Shockley said.

“The anchoring stuff Monday through Thursday, travel with the Dawgs Friday, game Saturday, and then I’m at the Benz on Sunday or doing the Falcons.”

Luckily, Shockley has the experience of being a quarterback in the Southeastern Conference.

It Just Means More everything. And he knows how wonderful it can be to balance it all, as the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs both won championships in his first year of duty.

“It’s pretty cool from a guy who grew up in this area to now, being able to cover those same teams.”

The North Clayton High School alum brought some fortuitous energy into these new roles.

“I rolled in at the right time.”

D.J. Shockley weighs in on Stetson Bennett, the Georgia quarterback room and more

I asked Shock point-blank: ‘What’s the difference in Stetson Bennett this season?’

He cut to the chase with his up-close observations of the Georgia quarterback.

“Just the confidence factor. Understanding that he is now the guy. I think since he’s been at Georgia, he’s never known that he was the guy,” Shockley said.

“And even last year, Kirby talked about him being the guy late in the season. But I still think there were times where he heard the chatter of people wanting J.T. (Daniels) to come back in. There were times where maybe he didn’t play his best, and he still kind of looked over his shoulder.

Shockley didn’t stop there on The Mailman and this Georgia team. Listen to the full interview to hear what Shockley says about Bennett, and a funny story about backup QB Carson Beck.

He also shares his perspective on how his former offensive coordinator – offensive analyst Mike Bobo – is jelling with current offensive coordinator Todd Monken, what makes this no-name defense tick, and more.
