Georgia hasn’t had the best of weeks when it comes to holding on to wide receiver talent. That changed Thursday night when rising senior Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint committed to play another season for the Bulldogs. He announced the news via twitter with a short video.

It’s especially important considering AD Mitchell put his name in the transfer portal on Wednesday. Rosemy-Jacksaint and Mitchell play the same position, split end (X-Receiver). Georgia also added Rara Thomas, formerly of Mississippi State, out of the transfer portal. Those two will team up to give Georgia a pair of experienced options at the position.

Rosemy-Jacksaint had his most productive season as a Bulldog in 2022. He hauled in 29 passes for 337 yards and a pair of touchdowns, setting career highs in each of those categories. He was the team’s fifth-leading receiver behind Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, Kenny McIntosh, and Darnell Washington.

The quasi-breakout season comes two years after the Ft. Lauderdale native suffered a gruesome injury against Florida. He was a true freshman at the time and suffered a dislocated ankle at the end of a 32-yard touchdown grab. The injury required surgery and he finished that season with four catches for 62 yards and a score in six games.

“It’s been a long journey, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of minor injuries, between all of that of what happened. It’s definitely been a long journey,” Rosemy-Jacksaint said earlier this season, days after a big touchdown catch vs. then-No. 1 Tennessee. “I’m just grateful and thankful to be in the position I’m in right now. And to still be able to play the game I love with my teammates.”

Rosemy-Jacksaint appeared in 13 of 15 games in 2021 but he battled multiple injuries, including one in the other ankle, throughout the year. It seemed as if he was back to his old self in 2022, catching multiple passes in seven of Georgia’s final 12 games.

His best showing came in a 26-22 comeback win at Missouri when he grabbed three passes for 46 yards as the Bulldogs scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat the Tigers. The only game where Rosemy-Jacksaint didn’t catch a pass in 2022 was the National Championship. Georgia beat TCU 65-7 in that one.

“He’s done a great job. He’s one of the most competitive, best guys that works really hard,” Kirby Smart said of Rosemy-Jacksaint in November. “He does a great job every day for us. I know that was rewarding for him. It was a hell of a throw and a catch. I’m really proud of everything he’s done from a leadership standpoint for our team.”

Due to the NCAA’s decision (because of COVID-19) to not count the 2020 season against the eligibility in any sport, Rosemy-Jacksaint has three years to play two. He still has a redshirt season as well as two years to play five or more games.
