Georgia needed a big body in the middle of the 2023 defensive class, and they’ve found their man in four-star Grimsley (Greensboro, North Carolina) defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett.

The nation’s No. 154 overall player in the 2023 On3 Consensus, Jarrett becomes the 15th member of Georgia’s Class of 2023.

At 6-foot-5, 365-pounds, Jarrett has long been a focus for the Bulldogs, and he’s connected deeply with the staff over multiple trips to Athens.

“They made it clear that they wanted to continue the great path that Jordan and a few others paved out for the next generation to take over,” Jarrett told DawgsHQ following his official visit to Athens. “They said they want to start that next generation off with a big boy running it.”

For Jarrett, it all worked together to reassure what he’d already felt about the program.

“Georgia has already been like a home to me, and all of my questions have been answered,” Jarrett said.

In the eyes of On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons was quick to point to Jarrett as a prospect who could see his stock on the rise moving forward given his rare combination of size and ability.

“He’s a kid that I think appears higher on recruiting list than he does maybe in his ranking,” Simmons said. “He’s a guy that teams covet to kind of build around on that defensive front, being a monster in that 6-5. 6-6 350-pound range that can move athletically. Some schools liked him on the offensive side early on. They’ve all shifted that to the defensive line side now as he makes his decision.”

Jamaal Jarrett ranks as the nation’s No. 20 overall defensive lineman per the Consensus and is the No. 3 prospect in the state of North Carolina for the Class of 2023.

Jordan Davis plays key role with Jamaal Jarrett

One of the key visits to Athens for Jamaal Jarrett? His stop for the National Championship parade in January.

He was able to experience the fans in Athens, as well as build a key bond with a man he hopes to emulate in Athens.

“It was awesome. 97000 fans out there screaming my name just as if I was already playing on the team. It was crazy. The support is there. The team is there,” he said. “I talked to multiple players, such as Jordan Davis. I talked to all of them for their input on Georgia, and they said, ‘This is the place to become great.’ Coach Scott and Coach Smart showed open arms to me. It was just awesome.”

Davis was quick to reinforce the notions that Athens should be Jarrett’s new home.

“For someone to take someone from the Carolinas, the same place I’m from, and turn them into an absolute dog is just awesome,” Jarrett said. “[Davis] simply just said, ‘Come be great.’ He looked me dead in the eyes and said that. He told me to keep my head up, keep working, and keep pushing.”
