After months of speculation, waiting, and working put in, the Georgia Bulldogs finally landed their man, with four-star wide receiver Tyler Williams announcing his commitment to the Dawgs during a ceremony on Tuesday evening.

Williams, ranked as the nation’s No. 124 overall prospect in the Class of 2023 per the On3 Consensus, becomes Georgia’s twentieth commitment of the cycle.

He is the third wide receiver to join the Bulldogs’ commitment list, alongside fellow four-star Raymond Cottrell and three-star Yazeed Haynes and chose Georgia over the likes of Miami, South Carolina, Clemson, and Texas A&M.

Georgia had long been considered a heavy favorite to land Williams’ pledge, with the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine slating him at a 93.8-percent chance just earlier today.

Much credit is due to Georgia receivers coach Bryan McClendon for that.

“Georgia has the best receivers inside to outside in college football. Nobody can guard them, they all get the ball equally, and that is a positive,” Williams recently told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Then you have BMac (Bryan McClendon). Our relationship is different. He came at me differently, he is like family, and that is big for me.”

And while McClendon led the way, it was a staff-wide effort for one of the nation’s top playmakers.

“They build relationships with you outside of football, but it’s not only that,” Williams said. “They never once will talk about or try to bash another school’s name in my recruiting, which I respect. It shows me they just want me to go where I feel the most comfortable, not because of stats or what’s on social media.”

The Scouting Report on Tyler Williams

Of the new Georgia commit, On3 director of scouting and rankings, Charles Power, has offered the following:

“Former basketball-first athlete who blossomed as a wide receiver after transferring to powerhouse Lakeland High as a junior. Has a natural, well-rounded skill set at receiver. A big, fluid mover at around 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Has plus length for the position with 33.5-inch arms. Draws on his basketball background to win at the catch point. High-points and attacks the ball in contested situations. Shows good lateral agility and spatial awareness as a runner after the catch. Continues to be a top basketball player, averaging over 15 points per game as a junior. Will need to continue progressing in the technical aspects of his game given his lack of football focus to this point.”

While ranked lower in the Consensus, On3 considers Williams one of the nation’s elite, ranked as the No. 53 overall prospect and No. 7 wideout in the Class of 2023.

On3 ranks Williams higher than any other recruiting service.

Additionally, On3’s player comparison is former Texas Tech standout Michael Crabtree.

“Like Michael Crabtree, Tyler Williams is a long-limbed pass-catcher who doubles as a basketball star and made the transition to wide receiver later in their career. Williams began his high school career as a quarterback and converted to receiver as a junior. Crabtree made the conversion at Texas Tech.”
