The 2024 College Football regular season is in the books and we’re headed toward conference championships. Georgia will enter it’s matchup with Texas in the SEC Championship game ranked as the No. 5 team in the country per the coaches poll. The Longhorns are ranked No. 2.
Oregon is still in the No. 1 spot after being the only FBS team to finish the regular season undefeated. Penn State is No. 3 and Notre Dame is at No. 4. Behind Georgia is Tennessee at No. 6, SMU at No. 7, Ohio State at No. 8 Indiana at No. 9 and Boise State is ranked 10th.
The Bulldogs finished off their regular season on Friday night with a thrilling 44-42 win over Georgia Tech. UGA trailed 17-0 at the half and by scores of 20-6 and 27-13 in the fourth quarter before tying the game at 27 with just over a minute left in the game.
It went into overtime where each team scored touchdowns on their first and second possessions. The in-state rivals both opted to kick PATs after scoring touchdowns in the first time and they each missed the two-point try in the second overtime after reaching the end zone again. The game eventually went into eight overtimes where Georgia got a three-yard touchdown from Nate Frazier to end it.

The showdown with Texas is set for 4 p.m. ET (ABC) on Saturday and it’ll be a rematch from a regular-season clash that Georgia won in October. The Bulldogs beat the Longhorns 30-15 in Austin thanks to 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and four Texas turnovers.
After finishing its season with a 17-7 win at Texas A&M, Steve Sarkisian’s team is 11-1 on the year. It’s Texas’s first season in the SEC.
With Clemson’s loss to South Carolina, it falls to 17th. That gives Georgia three wins over teams ranked inside the top 20 this year and both of it’s losses came to top 20 teams. When UGA and Texas play on Saturday, it’ll be the Bulldogs sixth game of the season against a team currently ranked inside the top 20.
