Indiana basketball has entered the race for one of the top players in the country, extending a scholarship offer to 2026 five-star guard Jordan Smith Jr., the standout announced Thursday evening via social media.

Smith, a 6-foot-2 combo guard from Fairfax, Virginia, is rated the No. 4 overall prospect and the No. 1 shooting guard in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

The offer from the Hoosiers adds another major suitor to Smith’s growing list, which already includes Duke, Kentucky, Georgetown, Arkansas, Louisville and several other high-major programs.

The Paul VI Catholic (Va.) product has already taken official visits to Duke, Louisville and Syracuse, but he told On3’s Jamie Shaw in early April that he is not close to making a decision.

“I don’t have any dates or timeframes yet,” Smith said. “But it is definitely going to be after Peach Jam is when I’ll make my decision. Maybe early school year. It’s not something I’m really thinking about yet.”

Smith emphasized that culture, relationships and playing style will be key factors in his college choice.

“I’m going to look at the play style of each school. How each of the coaches act with their team and how they interact with their teams,” he said. “Do they treat them like family on and off the court? I’ll look at the culture of each school, too. I like the culture at Paul VI and Team Takeover. We’re brothers, you know, we do everything together.”

Smith has shown why he’s considered one of the top talents in the country during a dominant spring run with Team Takeover on the Nike EYBL circuit.

In the first session in Mesa, Arizona, from April 25–27, Smith averaged 22.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 60 percent from the field.

A versatile offensive weapon who can score, facilitate and play on or off the ball, Smith also brings toughness on the defensive end.

Shaw named him MVP of the recent USA Basketball Minicamp, noting Smith’s ability to dictate tempo and impact winning.

“The 6-foot-2 guard has a physical nature to his game, aggressively playing at the point of attack on both ends,” Shaw wrote. “He is comfortable getting downhill and finishing through contact at the rim. Smith has good length and a physical frame, and most importantly, with Smith, the teams he was on throughout the USA Basketball minicamp seemed to consistently win.”

Indiana’s offer signals a clear intent to land a cornerstone guard in the 2026 class.
