Incoming Indiana freshman guard Aleksa Ristic is set to begin his FIBA U20 EuroBasket tournament with Serbia this weekend.

Group Phase games begin on Saturday, July 12 in Heraklion, Greece and the tournament will run through July 20.

Serbia will play Iceland in the opener of the Group Phase on Saturday at 6:00 am ET.

Ristic averaged 9.4 points and 2.4 assists while shooting 41.2 percent from three for Serbia last summer during the 2024 EuroBasket.

During his season with KK Dynamic this year he averaged 13.8 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 38.6 percent from three.

Ristic can play either guard position and will do both for Serbia this month. He spent most of his regular season with KK Dynamic playing on the ball.

“I mean, in my club over in Belgrade, it’s been just me on the ball for the whole time I play and I know how to do that really, really well,” Ristic told TheHoosier.com last month. “But when it comes to national team, I do both. I do both on and off the ball, so other players can get involved. So I’m pretty excited to see how it will go, but from all the practices I can see myself doing pretty good. I’m very excited about the European basketball tournament.”

This season he had 12 games with at least two made 3s, including six with more than two.

While Ristic is known for his shooting ability, he understands he needs to improve all areas of his game to make the impact he wants at the college level.

“I need to work. I’ve been working on it — I need to work a lot more when I get to the paint, how I’m gonna finish over the big guys,” Ristic said. “That’s the main difference I gotta work on, but it’s been going good. I’ve been practicing getting crafty around the rim a lot, so I would say that’s the main part that I been in growing on.”

Indiana officially announced his addition to the roster this week. He will join Indiana in Bloomington following the conclusion of EuroBasket play and be with the team when they go to Puerto Rico next month.

Ristic — a 6-foot-5 guard — had college interest from Kansas, Louisville, Georgetown and Virginia Tech among others before committing to Indiana.

“Aleksa is a versatile guard that can play on and off the ball,” Indiana head coach Darian DeVries said. “He is a competitive kid that has high-level experience playing in FIBA events. We think he has the ability to handle the basketball and make plays out of the pick-and-roll while also being an efficient shooter that will add tremendous depth to our backcourt.”

vs Iceland — Saturday, July 12 at 6:00 am ET

vs Slovenia — Sunday, July 13 at 11:00 am ET
