BOX SCORE RECAP: Hawkeyes dominate in Piscataway
The Iowa Women’s Basketball team got off to a good start in Big Ten play with a dominant 79-36 win over Rutgers on Saturday night in Piscataway. With the win, the Hawkeyes move to 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play for the sixth consecutive season.
Despite some pregame questions about how the game would go, the Hawkeyes were in control from start to finish, jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead that ballooned into a 22-6 advantage after the opening quarter. The Scarlet Knights failed to slow the game down, allowing Iowa to score in transition and in the paint, with the Hawkeyes building an impressive 42-14 lead. They scored a game-high 23 points in the third quarter, rolling to a 43-point win.
Iowa scored 79 points on 70 possessions (1.129 points per possession), while shooting 32-of-65 (49.2%) from the floor, 6-of-13 (46.2%) from three-point range and 9-of-18 (50.0%) from the free throw line. Ava Heiden led the way in scoring with 17 points, while Taylor McCabe put up 14 points with four made three-pointers. Journey Houston added a season-high 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Chit-Chat Wright played just eight minutes and was held out for precautionary reasons after taking a hit to the face.

Rutgers scored 36 points on 69 possessions (0.522 points per possession), while shooting 14-of-64 (21.9%) from the floor, 1-of-12 (8.3%) from three-point range and 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the free throw line. Zachara Perkins was the only player in double figures, finishing with 11 points and five rebounds.
The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Scarlet Knights 49-36, pulling down 34-of-50 (68.0%) defensive rebounds and 15-of-35 (42.9%) offensive rebounds. The turnover battle went in favor of the Hawkeyes, turning it over just ten times, while Rutgers turned it over 15 times. Iowa outscored the Scarlet Knights 30-16 in points off turnovers/second chance points.
