Caitlin Clark named WNBA Rookie of the Year
Many wondered how Caitlin Clark would do with the transition from college basketball to the WNBA. Is she going to be able to do the same things that made her so great at Iowa? We’ve got our answer. How does WNBA Rookie of the Year sound? Clark becomes the third player in Indiana Fever history to win the award, joining Tamika Catchings (2002) and teammate Aaliyah Boston (2023).
During the regular season, Caitlin averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game, leading the Fever to a 20-20 record, which was good enough for the six seed in the WNBA Playoffs.
When you start breaking down the statistics and digging into the season that Caitlin had, it becomes clear that she put together one of the greatest rookie seasons that the WNBA has ever seen. Her play on the court helped the Fever make the playoffs for the first time since 2016, while they won 20 games for the first time since 2015.
As a scorer, Clark put up a rookie record 769 points, including 19 games with 20+ points and four games with 30+ points. She broke the rookie three-point record by nearly 40 threes, while her 122 made triples is the second-most in a single-season in WNBA history. Caitlin tied the rookie record for threes in a game against Washington in June when she knocked down seven from behind the arc in a win for Indiana.
