Kansas State offensive MVP: Jayce Brown

It was a fantastic night for Kansas State true freshman wide receiver Jayce Brown. The Fort Walton, Florida native led the Wildcats in catches and receiving yards. He tallied four receptions for 88 yards in the win over TCU and scored his first touchdown.

Brown caught two nice passes from fellow K-State true freshman Avery Johnson in the first half on deep routes and caught a score from senior Will Howard. He added a jolt that was needed in the Kansas State passing game.

I also considered the K-State offensive line. What they did on Saturday night should not go unnoticed. The Wildcats ran for 300 yards in just three quarters and protected both Howard and Johnson very well. It’s not a coincidence the best games for them have come against UCF, Texas Tech and TCU.

Running back DJ Giddens had another nice game as well. He ran for 85 yards on just nine carries. Giddens also caught two passes for 75 yards and added a receiving touchdown. His 61-yard receiving touchdown was the longest pass of the season for Kansas State.

Defensive MVP: Desmond Purnell

Linebacker Desmond Purnell was everywhere on the field in the win over the Horned Frogs and is the player of the game on that side of the ball for the second time this season for K-State.

His strong play started early on a third down of the first drive of the game. Purnell took out Emani Bailey to not give Josh Hoover his check down on a particular pass. He also added a sack in the first half and had an interception in the third quarter.

Kansas State cornerback Jacob Parrish also had a good night in coverage. He had a critical pass break-up to turn the Horned Frogs over on downs.

Sophomore VJ Payne was also all over the field and making plays. His rise the last few weeks has been palpable. Payne was effective on one drive in particular in the third quarter where he secured multiple tackles and had a key third down stop.

K-State special teams MVP: Chris Tennant

It was a quiet but solid night for the K-State special teams. Chris Tennant was perfect on all of his kicks that included a 40-yard field goal make. There were very little opportunities in the return game and Jack Blumer was rarely used.
