While Kansas State is associated with plenty of huge names in the 2025 class and are attempting to secure multiple transfers for next season, the 2024 recruiting cycle is still front and center. The Wildcats have already landed David Castillo and have strongly been linked to Patrick Ngongba.

But other prospects are still on the periphery. One of those is Micah Robinson from Texas. He surfaced as a potential target for K-State during AAU sessions a year ago when he was playing up a level for Southern Assault on the 3SSB circuit.

While a bit raw from a basketball skills standpoint, he showcased tremendous athleticism and a pretty jacked frame. It coaxed offers from multiple high-major programs, including Kansas State.

“Last year was a big year for me to get used to playing up to that kind of speed and with older kids,” Robinson said. “They were more physical than me. They were stronger than me. They were more proven. So it was a good feeling out process and allowed me to come back this year and be more settled.”

“The game has slowed down for me,” he continued. “I’m making very good reads, both offensively and defensively. I’ve adapted to the speed of everything and I’m more comfortable with what I’m doing on the court from last year to this year.”

Though he wasn’t too involved on the scoring side in the game I watched him play a couple weeks ago in the Omaha area, he mentioned that it is the area where he has improved the most. Specifically, he is thrilled with how far his three-point shooting stroke has come.

Personally, it was his passing and finding open teammates and added playmaking that caught my eye.

However, contact with K-State has dipped a little bit. They have not been as aggressive in their pursuit of him as other programs.

“The teams I’ve been speaking with the most are LSU, Arkansas, Colorado, TCU, SMU and Arizona State,” Robinson pointed out. “But I haven’t set up any official visits. I’m not trying to plan those at the moment. I’ve been at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, will be busy with AAU basketball. Doing all that and planning official visits at the same time wasn’t for me. I’ll plan them in the Summer when school is complete.”

Despite that, he made sure to keep an eye on Kansas State this season.

“As far as the season, it was a huge turnaround,” Robinson noted. “Not many people expected them to make it as far as they did. Like I’ve said before when Coach (Ulric) Maligi called me, they are trying to build a championship program. He felt like I was a player that could contribute to that. Just seeing what they did this year, it’s crazy because nobody expected them to do that. Just to see what they did in the first year, it is going to be interesting to see how they do in later years.”

And his relationship with the K-State assistant is still blossoming.

“Coach Maligi thought that I could be a huge piece in all of it moving forward,” Robinson discussed. “He is nice. He was the first coach to call me way back in June when they were allowed to reach out for the first time. Ever since, I’ve just known him to be a coach that truly cares and makes that kind of effort.”
