https://youtu.be/sl03NlOZYnQ Jaws is coming back to theaters!  To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Universal is re-releasing Jaws for a limited nationwide run in theaters on June 21 and June 24.  For those of you who have not seen Jaws, let me enlighten you on what you're missing.  It's a movie about a small island town sheriff (who's afraid of water) and a motley crew trying to save the town from the...jaws of a great white shark.  No friends, there aren't sharks being whirled about by tornadoes in this movie.  And no, I'm not referring to the James Bond character.  Rather, this is simply one of the greatest films ever made and deserves to be celebrated to the fullest extent. This is an especially timely celebration as we may be on the cusp of the highest grossing movie summer of all time.  Avengers 2, Jurassic World, Mad Max, and Terminator: Genisys are all setting up for big paydays because the trail was blazed by Jaws.  In 1975, summer was typically a dead period for movie releases.  Instead of the movies, people were more likely going on vacation (like the beach).  Jaws changed all that (especially the beach part).  Now, we have summer blockbusters lined out years in advance and the summer season is the cash cow for the movie industry. https://youtu.be/u9S41Kplsbs Not only has Jaws influenced the movie industry, but the spotlight it shone on sharks influenced the scientific community.  Though the attention the movie created for sharks was highly negative in many ways (star Richard Dreyfuss once joked that he and Steven Spielberg wouldn't go into the water because sharks were angry with them), there were positive impacts such as increased funding and research for sharks.  In other words, we probably wouldn't have Shark Week if not for Jaws. This is not the first time Jaws has made it back to the big screen.  Many theaters regularly show old movies as part of a series, and in almost all of these I've come across, Jaws has been featured.  Some showings take it a step further, such as this one in Austin, TX.  This release is exciting though because it will be a nationwide event and a chance to relive a piece of movie history.  There will be many who will be experiencing the movie for the first time in a theater, or for the first time period.  What better way to enjoy summer than to celebrate the movie that made summer movies what they are!   Each day of the movie's release will have showings at 2:00 and 7:00.  Now, without further adieu, here's the clip with that quote you've probably been waiting to see. https://youtu.be/2I91DJZKRxs
