Make some room in your closet, Mr. Scheffler. The world No. 1 golfer will be taking home a snazzy new green jacket — and $2.7 million — after winning the 2022 Masters on Sunday afternoon at Augusta National.

Scheffler dominates final three rounds

It wasn’t particularly close, either. The 25-year-old University of Texas graduate entered Saturday tied for the largest 36-hole lead in tournament history. He dominated the final three rounds, ending 10-under on the weekend.

Australian Cameron Smith put pressure on Scheffler to begin the day. He pulled within one stroke on the second hole after back-to-back birdies to begin the final round, but bogeyed the next. Right around that time, Scheffler dug in and hit this incredible chip-in shot to keep his lead.

Smith stayed competitive until a brutal triple-bogey meltdown on the 12th hole ruined his fun.

Rory McIlroy gave Scheffler a scare as well. McIlroy, a four-time major winner, finished with one of the best Sunday rounds in Masters history with an 8-under-64. He ended with no bogeys, six birdies and an eagle on 13 — good enough to tie the Sunday record. He finished second outright on the weekend, with Smith behind him at third.

The win was Scheffler’s first major championship victory. After going three years with no PGA Tour wins, he recorded his first just two months ago at the Phoenix Open. Since then, he has won four times, pushing him to that No. 1 spot.

Tiger Woods is incredible regardless of his scorecard

Though he didn’t finish where he might have liked, we can’t talk about the Masters and not talk about Tiger Woods. After his car accident in February 2021, Woods wasn’t even sure he would be able to play golf again. Flash forward a little over a year later and he’s playing on Sunday at the Masters. That’s pretty incredible, right?

It wasn’t exactly pretty, though. Woods managed to shoot a 1-under-par on Thursday, followed by a gritty second round on Friday to make the cut. Saturday was where things got rocky. The 46-year-old carded a six-over-par, marking his worst score in a Masters round. He matched that effort on Sunday and finished 13-over on the weekend.

Regardless, it was pretty cool to watch him.

Afterward, he had some nice words for the fans on social media. Even more excitingly, though, he confirmed he will play at the 150th Open Championship in Scotland in July.
