[caption id="attachment_208243" align="alignnone" width="604"]UK Athletics UK Athletics[/caption] 1st Down Pass: 3-5, 9 yards  Run: 17 rushes for 66 yards (3.9 ypc) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 23-35, 323 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks for -23 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 102 rushes for 579 yards (5.7 ypc), 2 TD RECAP: Look, UK was playing the best defense in the country.  And these stats show it.  22 plays total for 75 yards.  A couple nice Benny Snell runs in there, all in the 2nd half, but overall UK just consistently got 3 yards or less on 1st down.  The offense is just not nearly talented enough to compete against Alabama. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––— 2nd Down and Long (6 yards or more) Pass: 5-6, 19 yards, 1 sack for -9 yards Run: 11 rushes for 17 yards (1.5 ypc) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 15-26, 240 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT, 6 sacks for -37 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 41 rushes for 214 yards (5.2 ypc) RECAP: 17 plays total for 27 yards.  There just wasn't any options that UK could depend on.  They kept getting in 2nd and long situations and UA ate them up.  When the rushing game isn't working, UK's offense is probably the worst in the SEC. 2nd Down and Short (5 yards or less) Pass: No plays Run: No plays Combined Season Statistics Pass: 4-5, 107 yards, 1 TD, 1 sack for -5 yards (1 fumble lost) Run: 15 rushes for 82 yards (5.5 ypc), 1 TD RECAP: I'm not going to do the research but I'd love to know when this happened in UK history.  They had 17 plays total on 2nd down and NONE of them were 2nd and 5 or shorter.  That's just dominant defense and really poor offense. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– 3rd Down and Long (6 yards or more) Pass: 1-4, 12 yards, 2 sacks for -16 yards (converted 1 of 6) Run: 1 rush for 3 yards (3.0 ypc) (converted 0 of 1) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 14-27, 180 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, 6 sacks for -51 yards (converted 8 of 33) Run: 5 rushes for 18 yards (3.6 ypc) (converted 1 of 5) RECAP: This season, if it's 3rd and long, the punter better get his leg ready.  Because the Cats can't throw the ball against even average defenses, it's just too easy to defend them in these situations.  The line can protect all they want but Johnson can't hit the receivers and they can't get open. 3rd Down and Short (5 yards or less) Pass: 2-4, 28 yards, 1 sack for -3 yards (converted 2 of 5) Run: 1 rush for 4 yards (4.0 ypc) (converted 1 of 1) Combined Season Statistics Pass: 2-6, 28 yards, 1 sack for -3 yards (converted 2 of 7) Run: 12 rushes for 66 yards (5.5 ypc) (converted 9 of 12) RECAP: Well, they did finally complete some passes on 3rd and short, so there's that.
