Five-star wide receiver Barion Brown is on the cusp of a final decision, and Kentucky is seen as the heavy favorite going down the home stretch.

Brown, a 6-foot-1, 173-pound athlete out of Nashville, TN, is rated as the No. 14 overall prospect and the No. 2 wide receiver in the senior class according to On3. And in two to three weeks, he could be a Wildcat.

“Shouldn’t be long.”

“It shouldn’t be long before I come down to a decision,” he told Tyler Palmateer of Main Street Preps on Thursday. “Probably two, three weeks. My head hasn’t really been on that too much right now.”

He also confirmed with Tom Kreager of the Nashville Tennesseean that he would sign during the early signing period.

Coming back from an ankle injury Thursday, Brown helped lead the Pearl-Cohn Firebirds to a 16-8 comeback victory over Montgomery Central. After a slow start — he entered the fourth quarter with just seven rushing yards — he finished the day with 14 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

He now sits at 574 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground to go with 22 catches and 295 yards through the air on the year.

As for his recruitment, On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons submitted a commitment prediction in favor of Kentucky last week. UK has also picked up three consecutive Crystal Ball picks for Brown over at 247Sports and three consecutive FutureCast predictions over at Rivals.

Kentucky has emerged as the heavy favorite over the likes of Alabama and Ole Miss, among other contenders.

UK is currently ranked No. 16 overall in the latest On3 team recruiting rankings with one five-star, eight four-stars and six three-stars. That’s good for No. 6 in the SEC with a team score of 89.925. Alabama leads the way at No. 1 (94.434), followed by Georgia at No. 2 (94.409), Texas A&M at No. 5 (92.452), LSU at No. 8 (91.945) and Missouri at No. 14 (90.550).

Add a player of Brown’s caliber, along with Kentucky’s other top targets, and it’s hard to envision a scenario the Wildcats finish outside the top 10. Not too shabby.

Come on down, Barion Brown.
