A couple of short football notes

by:Thomas Beisner01/14/10
Having finallly gotten a chance to sit down and catch the press conference that Joker Phillips had the audacity to hold 10 minutes after my son was born, my mind has been racing wild with optimistic dreams of "Operation: Win" (how has this not been referenced or joked about at least 1,000 times yet?) and head-to-head battles with Charlie Strong. So, you might be all gassed up about an undefeated basketball team right now, but here are a couple of football notes... - UK announced on Wednesday that three football commitments have enrolled for the spring semester and will begin practicing with the team. Minnesota transfer Terrell Combs, who The Gidel mentioned last week, College of the Canyons transfer Josh Gibbs and defensive end Justin Henderson, who graduated high school early in December, all will be getting a semester head start on their UK careers.  Here is the official release - Over at the Worldwide Leader, SEC blogger Chris Low places UK at #10 in his final football rankings for the conference. Low mentions a season of historic wins (Georgia and Auburn) and disappointing losses (Mississippi State and Tennessee) and, had he left out the team names, could have pertained to any of the last four seasons. We must get over this hump! - Finally, on a non-UK note, the Atlanta Journal Constitution (who has great football recruiting info all the time) has this little blurb about a confusing, yet "fluid" situation involving the Filthy Cards and a pair of Georiga high schoolers.
"Earlier this week, defensive end Malcom Strong and defensive back Chris Sharpe, both of Stephenson, said they committed to new coach Charlie Strong during an official visit to Louisville this past weekend. But apparently Strong saw it another way and the two players have yet to be acknowledged as commitments. Stephenson assistant Corey Johnson said it remains a fluid situation but clearly is not happy about the way events transpired. Meanwhile, the players are continuing to take visits. Stay tuned. . . ."
It wasn't a fix, but at least it was a little hit.  And, sometimes, that's just what you need to get by.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go retreat into my diaper-changing hole.  Happy Thursday.
