pizza Let's take a look at what people around the interwebs are saying about the Cats ahead of their public sacrifice of Akron tomorrow night in Commonwealth: --ESPN's Chris Low addressed the disappointing beginning of the season for Cats' DL DeQuin Evans in his SEC preview for the week:
5. Evans’ slow start: Kentucky lost a ton of talent on defense last year, but the feeling around the program was that one of the Wildcats’ most talented players was returning. Defensive end DeQuin Evans racked up 12.5 tackles for loss, including six sacks, in his first season in the SEC a year ago. He was being counted on to be the anchor of the Wildcats’ defensive line this season. But through two games, he’s still looking for his first sack — and his first tackle. The Kentucky coaches aren’t worried and are confident Evans will come on, and he needs to if this defense is going to reach its potential this season. He’s that dynamic finisher off the edge that makes everybody better.
--The folks at BetFirms give a good preview of the Akron game and break it down in terms of the 25-point spread. Here's a hint...we'll cover. --And finally, InsideVandy, which is a real website that, for some reason, is devoted to Vanderbilt sports, lays out their latest SEC power rankings, with the Cats coming in at #8.
The start of the Joker Phillips era in Lexington has followed the script perfectly, as his team followed a wire-to-wire win over rival Louisville with a layup victory against lowly Western Kentucky. Take care of business against Akron this weekend, and the Wildcats are halfway to bowl eligibility heading into a brutal SEC draw that opens with consecutive road games against Florida and Ole Miss.
