I'm sure you saw it - and if not - what rock have you been living under? For those that may have been spared Saturday afternoon's romp in Wells Fargo Arena with the Hoosiers, sorry to to tell you like this, but we lost. Big time. To Indiana. I can't believe I have to type that... For those that need a refresher, it was looking pretty good for Kentucky for a brief time and Indiana was giving us all the reasons why the Wildcats were going to walk out of this round unscathed. James Blackmon, who was the team's second-leading scorer, was parked on the Hoosier's bench as he had been all season, Juwan Morgan separated his left shoulder for the third time in a month, Robert Johnson was limping after re-injuring his left ankle, "Bad" Troy Williams was present during the first half, Yogi Ferrell was getting eaten alive by Tyler Ulis - couple that with some spotty shooting and it looked as if our boys would sail off into the sunset with Tyler Ulis as Captain of the USS Wildcat to the Sweet Sixteen as we have done before time and time again. But that didn't happen. Despite the odds and a valiant effort by Point God Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray (who combined to score 43 of Kentucky's 67 points), Indiana walked away with a win and punched their ticket to Philadelphia Friday. For the 22nd time in program history, Indiana is going to the Sweet Sixteen and Tom Crean and Co. have probably already designed their rings and banner for the occasion. Time to bid farewell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKqxlmI3Xgw Even though March Madness did not end the way we wanted it to, videos like this one of Tyler Ulis really make you reflect on how spoiled we are at Kentucky. Ulis will likely leave for the NBA along with Jamal Murray, Skal and a few others. Alex Poythress played his last game for Kentucky last night. In the next few weeks we will be saying goodbye to these guys as they go on about their lives. Doss takes on Dunbar in State Final [caption id="attachment_196594" align="aligncenter" width="210"]Photo by Paul Gray Photo by Paul Gray[/caption] Believe it or not there is still basketball going on, as Louisville's Doss will be battling Paul Laurence Dunbar in the state finals inRupp Arena at 2 p.m. today. It will be the first Louisville-Lexington Boys Sweet 16 final since Lafayette beat Male in 2001. The Dragons net their spot after beating South Laurel 70-63 in front of 10,917 fans. It will be the Dragons' second appearance in a state final - the first was in 1980 when they lost to Owensboro. Dunbar had its third tough game in four days, but survived Newport Central Catholic 55-47. Like Doss, Dunbar could be a first-time champion today as they will get their third shot in over 20 years. Dunbar was in back-to-back finals in 1993 and 1994. UK Hoops take on Oklahoma Monday UK Hoops vs. Baylor Matthew Mitchell and the No. 3 seeded UK women's team put a beatdown on UNC Asheville Saturday while on their home court at Memorial Coliseum. The bulldogs were crushed by Kentucky taking an 85-31 loss. In fact, the Bulldogs scored the fewest points by a UK opponent in tournament history, than to some fantastic playing by UK's Makayla Epps who led the Cats with 24 points, five assists and three rebounds. At half time Epps had scored as many points as the Bulldogs, with 16 points at UNC-Asheville trailed 37-16. The Cats will face sixth-seeded Oklahoma Monday night in Memorial Coliseum at 6:30 p.m. Kentucky's loss busted a lot of brackets According to ESPN, Kentucky fans were not the only ones upset over the loss to the Hoosier's yesterday. More than 1.1 million players lost one of their championship game picks yesterday evening as the Wildcats were picked to advance from the second round in nearly 63 percent of all entries. The Hoosiers were picked by only 28 percent. In fact, the Wildcats were the ninth-most popular among Sweet 16 picks and fifth-most popular among title-game winners. Along with Michigan State, Kentucky's loss busted brackets for more than 27 percents of participants who selected them win it all. UK is the NCAA National Champion [caption id="attachment_196608" align="aligncenter" width="323"]@UK Swim Dive @UK Swim Dive[/caption] Yeah, you read that right. While our men's basketball team were duking it out with Indiana, Danielle Galyer of UK's swimming team was making history as she became the first NCAA Swimming Champion in program history. The junior was the only member of UK's women's swimming team to advance to a final on the last day of the NCAA championships and broke her own UK record in the 200 back. Galyer won by a margin of more than half a second. At the podium she rocked some three goggles. I guess it was hard to shoot a bow and arrow while holding her trophy.
