A Way Too Early 2013 NBA Mock Draft

by:Rashawn Franklin09/18/12
No other team in college basketball is affected by the NBA draft like Kentucky is. Our year-to-year roster is based almost entirely on how the draft goes. Granted, it's way too early to take a mock draft seriously, but we have to at least keep an eye on how analysts are viewing our players going into the season. Just to take a look ahead, NBADraft.net recently updated it's 2013 Mock Draft, and there were a couple of surprises in it. ************************ 1. Cody Zeller, Indiana 2. Shabazz Muhammad, UCLA 3. James McAdoo, UNC 4. Nerlens Noel, Kentucky 5. Tony Mitchell, North Texas 6. Alex Poythress, Kentucky 7. Otto Porter, Georgetown 8. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, UGA 9. Ben McLemore, Kansas 10. Alex Len, Maryland 12. Ryan Harrow, Kentucky 17. Willie Cauley-Stein, Kentucky 19. Gorgui Dieng, Louisville *********************** A lot of things surprised me with this mock. First, Archie Goodwin is not in the mock at all. Are they not taking Goodwin's game seriously, or is it possible he could stay an extra year with Calipari? I'm thinking the latter. Secondly, this is the highest I've ever seen Ryan Harrow listed in a mock draft. I think people are starting to realize his talent, and how dangerous he could be this season. His full season with that championship team and learning Calipari's system will be invaluable. Harrow has all the tools to do great things for the Wildcats, and I think fans should be excited for him to lead our team. Finally, are we sleeping on Willie Cauley-Stein? 17th overall is not too shabby, and definitely speaks to the type of talent he has. If he plays at that type of level, Kentucky will be a very scary team.... again.
