Aaron Hernandez's Friday News and Views

Aaron Hernandez is in trouble. He's in a lot of trouble. The New England Patriot is caught up in a murder investigation and all signs point to his involvement in the homicide. I spent entirely too much of my Thursday afternoon watching a live steam of Hernandez's white SUV as media helicopters followed his drive from his home in North Attleborough, Massachusetts to Gillette Stadium and then on to Boston. It felt like the O.J. coverage all over again -- especially with the NBA Finals going on -- only Hernandez wasn't running, he was just going about his daily routine. That daily routine is in serious jeopardy, though. It became clear to the public Hernandez is a prime suspect when it was reported on Thursday that he destroyed the video surveillance system in his house and turned his phone over to investigators in pieces. Now police are trying to find out why Hernandez hired a cleaning crew to scrub his mansion on Monday, the day after Odin Lloyd, Hernandez's girlfriend's sister's boyfriend, was murdered. Coincidence? Could be, although extremely unlikely. To make matters worse, the former Florida Gator is being sued by a former friend who claims Hernandez shot him in the face back in February. The lawsuit, filed June 13, said that Alexander Bradley and Hernandez got into a fight at a Miami strip club, which led to the alleged shooting that blew out Bradley's right eye and caused severe damage to his right arm. Between the lawsuit and the current investigation, June has not been a great month for Hernandez and it's only getting worse. And we all thought Gronk was the wild one. To the News and Views...  Nerlens Noel was in Cleveland on Thursday to interview with the team that has the No. 1 overall pick in next week's draft. The Cavs will soon have a better idea of what they'll do at that top spot, but at least one website, HoopsWorld.com, is hearing Cleveland has "cooled" on Noel. That same website believes Noel will fall to the Wizards at No. 3 with Alex Len going first overall, followed by Victor Oladipo to the Magic at No. 2. Kentucky fans would love to see Noel become Cal's third No. 1 selection in four years, but I guess a Wall-Noel combo in Washington would be an OK consolation prize. Close your eyes really tight and you can already see the lobs.  Archie Goodwin worked out for Sacramento on Thursday. The Kings have the 36th pick in the draft, right around where Archie is projected to go. Boogie may or may not still be there next season.  In case you missed it, John Calipari spent about 10 minutes defending Nerlens Noel to Cleveland.com. Cal said Noel is driven like some of the best players he's ever coached and raved about the improvements he made in the six months between arriving on campus in late August and suffering the injury in February. "He has the most potential and the most talent," Cal said.  UK football target Matt Elam visited Ohio State on Thursday where he met the players, coaches and the governor of Ohio. He told Bucknuts.com, "I had a really good time and after this visit, I know Ohio State is going to be staying in my top five." Elam said the best part of his visit was meeting Urban Meyer for the first time; Meyer told him he loves him as a player and loves his personality off the field. elam-meyer Elam plans to visit Columbus again before the season begins, or maybe for a game this fall. He'll visit Notre Dame on Monday.  Life is pretty great for Mark Stoops right now, but things aren't going so great for his older brother down in Norman. Bob Stoops' home was burglarized and his car was stolen while the family was sleeping Wednesday night. An investigation is ongoing, while his little brother continues to steal elite recruits from the state of Ohio.  Hey, look, North Carolina escaped sanctions from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Colleges, the agency that accredits the school. Shocker, huh? On Wednesday we learned that Kentucky offered a scholarship to 2015 guard Malik Newman. This is Malik Newman... Newman, from Jackson, Miss., is an elite scorer who can play either guard position. He's a top three prospect in the 2015 class and a guy we'll be talking a lot about over the next year and a half, at least.  Harry Giles, the class of 2016's soon-to-be superstar, suffered a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee during last week's FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Maldonado, Uruguay. He spoke to USA Today's Jason Jordan about the setback and said Kentucky was one of two schools to reach out to him after the injury. Giles said coaches from Duke and Kentucky called him with words of encouragement, and it meant a lot to him. "I definitely was feeling a little sorry for myself at first, but not anymore," he said. In related news, Giles is already really, really, really, really good at basketball.  Let's pause for a moment to acknowledge the fact that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian named their child North -- as in, North West. They must be stopped.  Friday is a huge day for Kentucky Sports Radio radio as Matt and Ryan will be joined by Vince Marrow and Nerlens Noel on the show. Marrow will come on first (around 10:30, I believe) to discuss the success he's had recruiting the state of Ohio and the vision Mark Stoops has for Kentucky football. Then, Nerlens Noel will call in sometime during the second hour to fill us in on where he stands entering next week's NBA draft. You won't want to miss it. See you then.
