Andre Woodson picks up some hardware

by:Matt Jones09/18/06
As the day proceeded today I realized....that game Saturday was really good. I mean forget about the fact that the defense often looked like it could not tackle Calista Flockhart, the stadium had a number of empty seats and our in-state rivals proved that they might be for real.....there still is just a lot to be happy about Saturday. Kentucky beat a team that, while not good, is a team that Kentucky in most years recently would not have beaten, and did it by a comfortable margin. The prospect of a bowl game for this team is now real (beat Vandy and Miss St.) and the potential....yes the potential....for this team to turn a corner exists. And to add to that, our man Andre Woodson was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. This is a great honor for Andre and is one that he greatly deserves. Woodson has played well all year, even when he was being beaten to a pulp in the Louisville game. He shows great poise in the pocket, runs when he needs to and makes good decisions. He seems to be developing good chemistry with the receivers (including amazingly, Dickie Lyons) and is becoming a true team leader. Kentucky football hardware is rare. And for Woodson to win it this week is not revolutionary, but on a weekend where LSU-Auburn and Florida-Tennessee were the big contests, his win is part of a larger group of baby steps toward success. Now if we can just not get embarassed on ESPN on Saturday....
